OAKVILLE

Oakville is a quaint, even posh, suburb of Toronto that lays directly west of Mississauga, on the scenic shores of Lake Ontario, with a youthful, increasingly diverse population approaching 183,000.

It is best known for its attractive residential neighborhoods, hundreds of fine shops and restaurants, and its combination of 19th century small town atmosphere with modern amenities. Oakville lies just off major highways (the 403 and 407) and is served by GO Transit and its own local bus service.

More than 250 national and international companies in the automotive, technology, pharmaceutical and other sectors are headquartered in Oakville, including the Ford Motor Company of Canada, Tim Horton’s and the Weather Network.

Oakville’s annual Downtown Jazz Festival is just one of the yearly celebrations that attract residents and out of towners alike. The spring Love of the Arts Festival gathers together local performers, artists and musicians.

New shows and exhibits are always being unveiled at the Oakville Museum, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and various Oakville galleries.

Outdoor attractions include two busy harbours, the world famous Glen Abbey Golf Course and Bronte Creek Provincial Park.

Sports are a major part of life in Oakville. The Glen Abbey Golf course was designed by Jack Nicklaus opened in 1976 and hosted the Canadian Open in 2009. The Oakville Blue Devils are affiliated with the biggest soccer club in Canada, and the city has more than 60 soccer fields to choose from. The prestigious Burloak Canoe Club, Oakville Crusaders Rugby Club and Halton Outdoor Club, along with various hockey teams at almost every level, are just a few of the other appealing options for the area’s amateur athletes.
